Mott Projects is pleased to present Soft Logic Towards the Feelings, a solo exhibition by Bratislava-based artist Peter Cvik. This is Cvik’s first exhibition in New York and the United States. Join us for an opening reception on Friday, July 5th, from 6-8 pm.

In this new body of work Cvik further expands his interplay of surrealism, abstraction, architectural elements, and form. His kaleidoscope of vivid colors encourage the viewer to enter each piece, while his use of defined lines ground them within the realms and folded planes. These ethereal shapes of wisps of air turn his settings into geometric dreams. By coexisting this urban fantasia with architectural precision Cvik manifests an otherworldly environment where dreamlike cityscapes and enchanted mirages meet.

Cvik’s enigmatic blend of the fantastical with sharp, well-defined edges causes the work to engage on an emotional level, allowing viewers to interpret and connect with each painting in a personal and intuitive way. This soft logic accepts ambiguity and uncertainty and values the richness of the emotional and subjective experience. By prioritizing adaptability, personal connection and emotional resonance over literal representation Cvik leaves room for the exploration of the boundaries between reality, imagination, memory and thought.

As Cvik writes:

All of these current paintings are based on sediments of memories as situations in my mind. As the memories are not sharp in their full wideness I needed to find out how to deal with this fact. My solution is to mix layers of different memories on one canvas and at the same time work with gestures as fulfilment of these blurred spaces in between. What I want to achieve is that every viewer can fit their own stories by recognising visualities that remind them of their memories.

The most important fact about these paintings is that I try to open an  interpretational field for viewers as much as possible. If the audience likes the visuality they can start to dive into their own memories and thoughts. This is fascinating for me: I paint what I paint but everybody sees a different story that is directly connected to their own experiences.
